Via a sequence of regular releases, Rich Bennett has revealed a strong desire to make cinematic music encompassing many different genres. ‘Buddy Cop’ comprises, once again, a series of instrumentals for an imaginary theme; in this case featuring a classy, refined cop from uptown named Dan Lyman.

Spanish four-piece Delorean has been kicking around the dance-pop scene for awhile now, remixing the Teenagers and Mystery Jets in 2008, then releasing the hype-building Ayrton Senna EP in 2009. Now after playing nearly every conceivable showcase at the 2009 CMJ, the band releases Subiza, its third full-length album. Mixed by Chris Coady, who's worked with !!! & Telepathe, and recorded by Hans Kruger, who sounds like a bad guy from Die Hard, Subiza promises to be yet another set of danceable, summery pop tracks.

Perth three-piece Tame Impala play with some of the ingredients of arena rock as well but do so in aid of more leftfield, organic sounds and interesting excursions. The result is a cleanly executed and frequently dazzling debut: Innerspeaker is a psychedelia-heavy outing that toys with paisley pop, stoner vibes, and an expansive array of swirling guitars.

The group's sophomore effort, Public Strain, pushes forward in both directions-- the hooks are noisier, the noise is hookier, and both are fogged over with enough reverb to make Felt records seem bone-dry by comparison. Fidelity-wise, it's a step down. But in just about every other sense, Public Strain is an improvement-- a bleak but beautiful record, full of subtly skewed melodies.
