easy tempo vol4

The whole series could not be a more brilliant showcase of the dedication behind "background" music of 1960's & 1970's Italian movies - that just because they are "scores" does NOT mean they can't be brilliant on their own as: easy listening, bossa nova, 60's spy themes, Class A jazz tracks, dance chill, or as fun lounge tracks.

Bonnie Prince Billy, in my opinion, is this generation's Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen as far as lyrics go. His lyrics on this album are the type that you may not get right away, but when you do understand what he's talking about, you love the album even more. Every song on this album is fantastic. At first listen, a few tracks seem to stand out more than others (not that any of them are bad), but as this album gets into your heart, you realize that every track is essential to the one behind it and before, therefore creating what I call a great album.

As mentioned before, there is an overall moelancholic feel to the album, but at the same time, there are beautiful swells, plucked guitar lines and crisp - head nodding beats.

If you like the mellow songs in the Lemonheads catalogue, then chances are you will love this cd. The cd sounds like a more modern Lemonheads with less hard-rocking and more singer-songwriter vibe (akin to Ben Kweller). The album is wonderful all the way through, unlike many of the spotty Lemonheads albums. Although I am a huge Lemonheads fan, I have to say that this cd is the best thing that Evan Dando has put out so far.

The Coral pick up where they left off with this gloriously atmospheric follow-up to their self-titled debut album. Three listens in and it grips you and won't let go, mixing elements of just about every psychedelic sound you've ever heard, it's the sound of a band fast-approaching their true masterpiece. This isn't quite it, but it does contain their best moment yet in "Pass It On", and the equally brilliant "Liezah", "Secret Kiss" and "Don't Think You're The First".

The record is an emotional listening experience, and there's a constant thread of melancholy permeating even the most bombastic numbers. It's good late night listening, with the lights dim and your mind clear (or even a little buzzed). Sometimes its hard to take the entire thing in one sitting, but when there's barely any filler, how can length be a downside? This really is great music, and I think this band's stature will grow with time.
