Trevor Powers' debut as Youth Lagoon, The Year of Hibernation, provides the missing link between bedroom-pop contemporaries like Small Black and Perfume Genius and the bittersweet psychedelia of Mercury Rev and the Flaming Lips.

Don't know why I've waited so long to blog about SF's dream poppin duo, The Bilinda Butchers, their sound is so perfect for this time of year. Their most recent release, Regret, Love, Guilt, Dreams; is filled with My Blood Valentine sounding material and encompasses a consistent nostalgic appeal that makes these melodies sound ever so new and pristine.

So as you may know, Toronto's Persian Rugs contains two fellas from the dearly departed (maybe?) Airfields: Ian [guitar] and Ali [bass guitar]. They've got this fantastic new pop band who also have a spanking new Cloudberry 7" out. This video I recorded is the A side to that single. It's a fantastic song, though I kind of wish I'd recorded the song they kicked their set off with - Revolving.

I’ve been listening to the debut LP by Pamplona’s Reina Republicana incessantly for about a month now. It’s absolutely lovely. They sound like a Spanish version of Seattle’s Seapony. Sweet, shimmery, perfect indie pop. So pretty. Their album is out now on Limbo Starr. Get it.

Metropol is an indie pop-rock band from Valencia, Spain. Influences: U2, The Killers, Oasis, Tindersticks, Coldplay, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and many more. Since the release of their first EP in 2006 they have become the spanish band with the highest number of contacts and plays on myspace. Thanks to this achievement they had the opportunity to get in contact with many fans from all over the world including a good number of film-makers who offered themselves to carry out a series of videos (one for each one of the songs included in the cd) which are now on display on the band's official webpage . At the end of 2009 Metropol entered a studio to record their debut album and, after one year and half of hard work, they finally managed to release their self-produced record " My own gravity" in the spring of 2011. The album "My own gravity" is currently downloadable for free on the official webpage and on the facebook page of the band. Facebook page.

I Think About His Death”. Se seu ouvido está moldado à trilha sonora cativa de#indiesfestivos, talvez seja melhor nem tentar.

Dot Dash is a post punk pop band from Washington D.C. If this bio had one of those “RIYL/Recommended If You Like” sections, it might drop names like The Jam, Joy Division, or The Byrds… or perhaps it would bring up an apparent appreciation by Dot Dash for the ancient sounds of the Postcard, Whaam and early Creation labels… But those kinds of judgments can really only be made by you, the listener. As is often the case, Dot Dash has a whole “they are ex-members of” thing going on: Guitarist/singer Terry Banks and bassist Hunter Bennett were in punky power poppers Julie Ocean. Before that, Terry was in a bunch of jangly guitar bands, including The Saturday People, Tree Fort Angst, Glo-Worm and St. Christopher. Guitarist Bill Crandall was in the mod/pop band Modest Proposal. Drummer Danny Ingram began musical life in Dischord-label punks Youth Brigade before moving on to Strange Boutique and, later, U.K. guitar-wranglers Swervedriver. Dot Dash plays shows, mostly around D.C., but occasionally out of town, whenever they can. In the recent past they’ve opened for Urge Overkill, The Godfathers, The Trash Can Sinatras, The Chameleons, Hugh Cornwell and The Capstan Shafts.
spark>flame>ember>ash is released by Canadian indie label The Beautiful Music.

Brooklyn's Captured Tracks label doesn't quite have a "house sound," but it is striking how many of their releases share an approach to guitar. Recent records from Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils, and Catwalk all have a similar penchant for long, languid melodic lines over gaps of quiet space. You can add to this list the debut LP, By the Hedge, from Boston indie pop outfit Minks. Their first outing has that loose, lovingly warm six-stringed feel all over it, whether it's used to take a song to its end ("Cemetery Rain") or to fill up an entire track (the dolorous instrumental "Indian Ocean").

Young Dreams have signed to Modular and are releasing a new LP in 2012. As a celebration of sorts, they were kind enough to offer a new band-titled track today that has their beautifully produced tropicalia meets beach boys meets norwegian sound in full force.

a pleasant dream
