visions small town commotion

The Visions actually hailed from Mineral Wells, Texas. In this clip, from left-to-right, they are Bruce Doshier on bass, Billy Dalton on rhythm guitar, character actor Don Stroud (not a member of the Visions), Charles Morgan on drums, and Gary James on lead guitar and lead vocals. Lucille Ball hired the Visions to perform at her home for Desi Arnaz, Jr.'s 16th birthday party. Gary James resides in Fort Worth. The Visions recorded for Warner Bros. and for the Uni Record label.

the-californians-cant-get-you-out-of-my-mind-decca

The Californians, like The Montanas, were one of the best known Wolverhampton recording groups during the 1960s. They were very much influenced by American harmony groups such as The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, and The Association. The Californians went through a number of line-up changes but still managed to preserve their distinctive sound.

natty bumpo theme from valley of the dolls

Great sunshine pop song that's psyched up. Leaves the other versions in the dust. The flip FLIES! Pure sunshine pop goodness with harmonies, catchiness and trippy lyrics.

harry's group under my umbrella

Unfortunately, this is another instance where there isn’t a lot of information available about the artist or the song. Depending on what you’re reading, the song was either released in 1967 or 1968. It was written by Chip Taylor (who also wrote “Wild Thing” and other hits) and Billy Vera (another accomplished songwriter).

The song went widely under-appreciated for two main reasons. The first would be the large amounts of amazing music being released in 1967 and 1968 overshadowing its release; the second was the minimal effort put forth by the record company to get the song airtime.

The+Rainy+Daze

Psychedelic pop combo the Rainy Daze formed in Denver, CO, in 1965. Comprised of singer/guitarist Tim Gilbert, his brother Kip on drums, lead guitarist Mac Ferris, bassist Sam Fuller, and keyboardist Bob Heckendorf, the group started as little more than a covers act, nevertheless parlaying a string of frat party gigs into a local television appearance that reportedly caught the attention of famed producer Phil Spector, who extended a management contract.

the couryers

Great song from 1967 performed and recorded by the Couryers from Detroit. This song and the flipside "Just Tell Me" were created and composed by Tom Valente (Lead Guitar and Vocals) with Mike Flaherty (Rythym Guitar), Jim Coppess (Bass Guitar) and Mike Schweickert (Drummer). The Couryers performed for four years and had a good local following.
