the_rovin_flames

The Rovin’ Flames were a major group out of Tampa, Florida. They went through many lineup changes, and it’s only thanks to Dorothy Chapman, the former Secretary and later Vice President of the Rovin’ Flames Fan Club that I can give a detailed listing of lineup changes.

the loved ones

In 1965, Barry Seidel formed a music company called Traydel Productions. The first band Seidel signed was The Mad Hatters from Washington DC. In the course of one year the band released three stunningly great singles- “I Need Love”, “Go Find A Love” and “I’ll Come Running”, all with Dylanesque-PF Sloan sounding folk-rock songs as the b-sides. Mad Hatter live shows were legendary as well, as is exemplified by the explosion of the amps during their electrifying medley of “Since You’ve Been Gone>I’m All Right>The Mad Hatter Theme” and their rocking version of “I Need Love”, both included on this album along with all their singles, making this the most complete collection of Mad Hatters’ material ever released.

The-J--B-There-She-Goes

This was recorded by Tommy Brown & Mickey Jones under an early pseudonym before their 'Tommy & Mickey' releases & is now one of the hardest of their releases to track down.

This collection focuses on some of Nashville's smallest independent labels and their most obscure releases.

the uncalled for

This Nashville-based outfit actually got a pretty decent single, "Do Like Me," out on the Laurie Records label in 1965 and left behind a pair of good demos, "Since You've Been Gone" and "Masters of War," cut during the summer of 1966. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi

How I remember Fred Neil is a bit different from how most people remember him, who see him as a blues singer, and remember him as the writer of “Dolphins” (Tim Buckley) and “Every Body’s Talking” (sung by Harry Nilsson in ‘Midnight Cowboy’), and perhaps mentioned as an influence on Bob Dylan, and Stephen Stills guitar playing, or the admiration from Jefferson Airplane (who covered "The Other Side of This Life", a song which Lovin'Spoonful and The Animals also covered) or from David Crosby's.

Imagine the Mamas and the Papas without the arranging prowess of John Phillips or the powerful voice of Cass Elliot and you get a pretty good idea of what the Deep Six sounded like. During their brief existence, they released one self-titled LP in 1966 on Liberty.

Tim Hardin was the archetypical 60's "genius artist." What he produced of quality was stunning, the length of time that he maintained this level of achievement was virtually microscopic, and, of course, heroin and assorted villians sapped him of motivation, vitality and inspiration.
