A rarity among the Detroit rock scene of the late 1960s more commonly identified with the proto-punk intensity of bands like the MC5 and the Stooges, Früt of the Loom instead embraced the psychedelic movement to its fullest. Comprised of vocalist Panama Red, guitarist Crunchy Chrystals, bassist John Kozmo, and drummer Snidely Whiplash, the group arguably predated Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen as the Motor City's first true hippie band, making their recorded debut in 1967 with the single "One Hand in Darkness."
