the couryers

Great song from 1967 performed and recorded by the Couryers from Detroit. This song and the flipside "Just Tell Me" were created and composed by Tom Valente (Lead Guitar and Vocals) with Mike Flaherty (Rythym Guitar), Jim Coppess (Bass Guitar) and Mike Schweickert (Drummer). The Couryers performed for four years and had a good local following.

the skeptics

The Skeptics from Bartlesville, Oklahoma recorded a total of 6 45s which were hard to get with picture sleeve when they were issued back in the day. The group has been best described as a garage rock version of the Zombies with a Southern accent . Unheard of for nearly 50 years, an entire LP has been released for the first time on vinyl - the way it was originally intended. Included in the album, is their great folk-rock garage monster 45 "Ride Child". This LP includes 11 songs, rare photos of the group and insert with detailed liner notes. Tracks: Side One: 1. It's A New Thing To Me 2. For My Own 3. I Told Her Goodbye 4. Certain Kind Of Girl 5. Stripes Side Two: 1. Ride Child 2. Apple Candy 3. Bit O' Honey 4. East Side Tenement House 5. She's A Gas 6. Turn It On.

the-boys-next-door-suddlenly-she-was-gone

Known to some as "the Beach Boys of the Midwest, " the Boys Next Door were among the relatively few competent emulators of the Beach Boys/Jan & Dean vocal/hot rod/surf sound, and certainly among the very few competent emulators to emerge from outside of California. Formed in Indianapolis, they issued a few singles in 1964-67, the first of these billed to the Four Wheels before they reverted to the name Boys Next Door (which they'd been known as before making their recording debut).

Powered by Love was a band formed in Victorville, California in 1967 that played Top 40 hits from the 50's & 60's. The band was composed of their leader and rhythm guitarist Randy Smith, lead guitarist Johhny Navarre, saxophonist Jim Downing, organist Sam, drummer Joe Steves, and lead singer Billy Guy. Guy wrote both of the group's songs : "Ride On a Magic Carpet" and "Powered by Love", which was played on the popular TV show American Bandstand and local radio stations. The group disbanded shortly thereafter.

the satyrs

This all time classic garage single was released by a bunch of teens from Haddon Heights, New Jersey in 1968. According to Bob Agnew, guitarist from the group, they were a gigging unit for about a year competing in 'Battle Of The Bands' contests and the other low key performances like teen dances etc.

fruit of the loom

A rarity among the Detroit rock scene of the late 1960s more commonly identified with the proto-punk intensity of bands like the MC5 and the Stooges, Früt of the Loom instead embraced the psychedelic movement to its fullest. Comprised of vocalist Panama Red, guitarist Crunchy Chrystals, bassist John Kozmo, and drummer Snidely Whiplash, the group arguably predated Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen as the Motor City's first true hippie band, making their recorded debut in 1967 with the single "One Hand in Darkness."

the beautiful daze city jungle

I was first introduced to this record via it's inclusion on the legendary "Acid Dreams" compilation in the early 80's, it has also made an appearance on "Psychedelic Unknowns" and a few other newer compilations. The term psychedelic is thrown around pretty casually these days to include anything with even a hint of fuzztone guitar and marginally trippy lyrics. Well this 1967 45 by The Beautiful Daze is fully deserving of the psychedelic tag and then some.
