This entire CD is very melodic and groovy with a psychedelic feel to the songs. I love how entrancing Hope Sandoval's voice is combined with the resonating chords on the guitar and keyboard. I think of the 3 Mazzy Star CDs, this is my least favorite, but it is still very excellent.

I was a college student in the summer of 1990 when I bought this on a whim after hearing "Here's Where the Story Ends" just once, when I stumbled onto the video at a friend's house while watching an MTV alternative music program. This CD is a fantastic, top-notch production that anyone who appreciates music can enjoy.

Sad, melancholic, beautiful, dark, fragile, gentle.

Behaviour perfectly captures the other side of Pet Shop Boys. Considered. Quiet. Very introspective. Adult. This is an incredible set of songs, one I have yet to tire of. And it hasn't aged a bit like some of their earlier material. I think it is the best the Boys have to offer.

I can't think of a release that sums up the entire British baggy rave scene as this one does. An incredible mix of groovy beats, chunky bass lines, funky guitars along with utterly unique vocals. Music that sounds as good today as it did back then, able to easily overcome so much of today's blandly overproduced stuff.

Paula Fraser does it again ... this album is a bit less dreamy than Gentle Creatures (a FABULOUS album), but this album has a bit more punch to it! Paula sings beautifully, flawlessly, and the guitar work is genius ... i usually listen to this album for days at a time.

The third installment of Celestina was actually my first listen to the 17 Pygmies music. By the time I finished listened to the complete set of tunes I realized that having a theme that ties all the music together like a book isn't being done much anymore. The music overall has an ethereal, other-world feel that is very unique. I found it especially soothing for a Monday morning since usually it's kind of a panic-mode day. The main vocalist Meg Maryatt has a very resonant and pleasing tone, making so believable that an alien or robotic-hybrid person was singing and sharing her experiences of emotions she discovers.

Bio, audio, press here.

The subtle quirkiness of The Triffids is all too easily overshadowed by the self-professed otherness of bands like The Birthday Party. But don't be fooled: this Australian band offers one of the most haunting and outlandish listens around. The Black Swan (the title of a short story by Thomas Mann), produced by Smiths producer Stephen Street, takes you on a melancholy tour around Australia's darker underbelly.

From the shimmering sounds of the 'third time we opened the capsule' to the vitriolic thrust of 'mainly mornings' precious few albums can provide the sustained listening pleasure of Love is Hell (it's been ten years since I first picked this up on vinyl and is usually kept in close proximity to the record player).
