The music made by Afterglow shifted wildly between Jefferson Airplane/Donovan-influenced folk-rock and eerie sounds that could only have been created after months spent as captives inside a UFO headed for deep space. Vocalists/guitarists Tony Tecumseh and Gene Resler, keyboard man Roger Swanson, bassist Ron George and drummer Larry Alexander—all hailing from the Twin Peaks-like Siskiyou outback near Yreka, Calif.—had the good sense to return to college and get productive jobs once Afterglow folded. But the band left behind an exhilarating vapor-trail of music, cut at Leo Kulka's Golden State Recorders in San Francisco, that still beguiles both fans of psych-rock and “something else” rock to this day.
